The Football/Soccer Thread

Welcome to the greatest sport in the world!

You can call it football, soccer, voetbal, fußball, futebol, fútbol, sakkā, calcio, футбол, ποδόσφαιρο, כדורגל, bola sepak, sepak bola, 축구, 足球 -- and you'll end up with the same game. One ball, two teams, 2x45 minutes, two sides of the field, the referee, the game, and the victory.

This is where you can talk about the teams, the players, the managers, the owners, the fans, the leagues, the tournaments -- the game!

Remember: No Flaming is allowed.

Fair Play, Kick Racism Out of Football and may the best team wins!

Thanks :D[br]Posted on: December 24, 2006, 10:47:14 PM_________________________________________________EPL fans, Rejoice!

I hope Fergie signs up David Silva we really need him and hopefully those Madrid leeches don't sign him.

Re: The Football/Soccer Thread - Part 1

I heard some time ago that after the WC, Utd would hire Luis Fabiano. Sure as hell is better than Berba :XD

Well, Inter and Barça are national champions as expected. Now, Inter'll go for the champions trophy!

I'm still in shock that Cambiasso and Zanetti aren't in Argentina's team '-'

Re: The Football/Soccer Thread - Part 1

New thread! Wooot! XD

Fabiano for United? That's interesting. :blink
Berbatov was useless this season. He'll go to Munich this summer and I think Hargreaves should retire because I can't see him coming back from such a nasty injury. He hasn't played for more then a year. *facepalm*

I'm with you Saintz. Argentina have no midfield. XD They need Zanetti & Cambiasso. Ballack is out of the WC.

Inter FTW! :shakefist

I can't believe Maradona left Zanetti out of the team; they need him for his experience alone, not even considering the fact that at his age he's still one of the best side backs in the world.

Several of Maradonna's choices for Argentina's World Cup squad have just been staggering. That being said now they'll probably go and win it now playing as if Sam Allerdyce was in charge.

Re: The Football/Soccer Thread - Part 1

They were by quite a distance the best team in that tournament, they'll probably be challenging for the World Cup this year but my money's on Spain winning it.

Re: The Football/Soccer Thread - Part 1

For those of you who are blind don't know - we now have an official World Cup 2010 Thread! :nuts Thanks to Des-chan. I hope you guys participate in the discussions and whatnot, once the WC starts that is. :)

Anyway...

Foster's gone to Birmingham lol and Fergie's promoted Ben Amos into the first team; his officially now our third goalkeeper. I wonder whether he'll get any games next season? XD Maybe, in the Carling Cup?

Grant resigned...that was coming. :oh
So what do you guys make of Newcastle coming back up and how will they fair in the Premiership next season? XD

I can't wait for the Champions League Final this coming saturday. :wtf

Time to place your bets....:smile-big

For the Champions League, my money's on Inter 2-1. Then Mourinho will leave for Real in the summer.

Re: The Football/Soccer Thread - Part 1

Didn't watch the game, didn't expect Inter to win but if you beat münic, barcelona and others then you have to hand it to them indeed

Mourinho to Real?

Re: The Football/Soccer Thread - Part 1

Yeah the rumours started going around as soon as he started complaining about Italian football, but he himself confirmed that his agent had spoken with Real but he needed to speak to them himself on Monday and see where to go from there, but it's as good as a done deal.

I missed the match too, I was at work; the 1st Champo League final I've missed in 6 years. I knew Inter would win, they did to Bayern the same thing they did to Barcelona at the Nou Camp, the defense was spot on.

Im so happy that Mourinho's gone to Madrid, maybe now he can whip those losers into shape and make a real team out of them. I hope the board does give him control over decisions regarding the team and just let him do things his way.

Benitez leaves by mutual consent. I cannot help but think this is going to be akin to the 90's for liverpool. A slow and torturous descent into mediocrity, but i suppose it all depends on who they pick next. Although i doubt considering the transfer budget anybody could do better. True idiots at the helm of the club. And meanwhile the inter milan position is available. Benitez seems almost destined to go there. Whatever happened last season he still is a world class manager.

They won't find anyone better than him who would be willing to take over. All the good coaches have it good at their current clubs. The only person I could think of was Martin O'neil but there's no way he'd leave Villa for Liverpool imo. Liverfools are stupid for letting him go. I think Benitez said it best when he said that he achieved too much too early on in his time there, so the expectations were ridiculously high.

I think Martin O'Neil would be a great choice for Liverpool right now. Villa may loose a few key players this summer. It's going to be interesting who will take Rafa's seat now. Gawd, I hope the rumours are false about Inter considering Rafa as a replacement for Jose. :darn

Arsenal rejected an offer from Barca for Fab. :D

Yeah I saw that Arsenal rejected the offer, I hope they agree on something soon and let him go. I wouldn't want an unhappy player staying because they couldn't work out something.
