Batoto description:

Manga adaptation of the prequel light novel, of Shingeki no Kyojin(Attack on Titan)"
The story follows the creator and the creation of the 3DMG, Ángel Aaltonen.
A mysterious youth named Kyklop and various other characters.
Set around 80 years before the main story of Eren & Co. In the year 770 to 790 of AoT's fictional alternative world.

From the opening (MS version):

Though there were many victims, the survivors had a strict gag order imposed upon them, and everything was stricken from the royal government's official records. However, the truth that the inside of the "wall" was previously breached by "them" 70 years ago is hardly known.

However, it really did happen...

My comments on the prologue...

Assuming this will be canon, something for which I'm still awaiting confirmation, I'm really excited about the possibility that there was a titan-worshiping cult/faction at one time. Perhaps they even still exist underground in the main series? Might they have something to do with titans being in the walls? Also, I wonder if this is how Ymir got back inside Wall Maria?

]Ymir could be in that prequel since she was possibly already alive 80 years ago. In fact, her human form is a young adult (around 18 year old) and she spent 60 years in her Titan form. Based on what we know, she is therefore at least almost 80 year old. She was born in that time. We could even learn her history and how she managed to steal the Titan's power.

Yeah, sorry I keep forgetting. But I editted with a spoiler tag shortly after. I don't think anyone else had the time to see it without the tag.

]But shouldn't you put a spoiler tag on yours as well now? Since, you know, by saying that you hope Ymir makes a cameo apperance, you're indirectly letting people know that she was around at that time.

Your first link is a mirror of the Mangastream Edited Manga I linked above. I'm not adding any such links to the OP because MS explicitly requests (you can see it for yourself in their watermark where it says "Mangastream - do not mirror" on virtually every page they scanlate. So when other groups' work becomes available, I'll add those links.

The second link is the first light novel. It may have illustrations in it, but it will be more text-based. Before the Fall is adapted from the LN series, apparently.

If the manga spin-off really is going to follow the novel, then expect the novel prologue to happen in the upcoming chapters. The manga spin-off's chapter 0 was probably just testing the waters and setting the tone. A 10-page chapter isn't enough to cover the novel's prologue.

Actually...Before the fall isn't a VN. It's a Light Novel....And we don't know whether Isayama helps out with the light novel or not........The VN one is Levi's story...XD

Whoops, I totally knew that (or I wouldn't have talked about it being text-based since visual novels are far more, well, visual ) and just got my terminology mixed up. Thanks, I'll go back and fix it now!

Did you read the prologue yourself btw? I thought it looked promising, but I care first and foremost about the story, personally, as long as it's canon.

No prob!~ I actually got confused there for a sec until I realized you meant Light Novels. XDDDDD

But which prologue? The light novel's or the manga spinoff? I read the manga's but with the light novel, I stopped reading at that line I posted in the other thread. I'll probably start over again once the translator does the other chapters. XD

I guess the story with Angel may be canon though(I'm holding back until we get a word from Isayama). He's the inventor of the Maneuver Gear after all. So yeah, I'll probably read them later once it has a lot of chapters posted in the web, either the manga or the LN. XDD

It's just a teaser right now though. Only 10 pages. There is at least one very interesting aspect about it though, which I hope crops up in the main story at some point.

I don't know about you guys, but anything Shingeki no Kyojin gets me excited as long as there's a % of canon, lol. I liked the teaser, and the art didn't bother me at all, rather, I enjoyed it very much. I think it was realistic and fit the setting

This looks interesting, very interesting... and the Fatass titan looks disturbing, (even more so than any other titan in the manga) so far. How often will this story update?

But that titan does not look anything like a shifter, meaning ape titan or someone with the same ability turned a certain human into that titan. And since this is before 3DM and ape titan doesn't know about 3DM this could even be his doing.

@Immortal: Yup, I wouldn't be surprised at all if the beast titan was involved. I think that's more likely than Ymir even. (The blob titan looks like it's probably an ordinary mindless one to me. If that cultist-- or more importantly, her cult's leaders --have ever seen titans before, I'm guessing they must have been intelligent.)

This will be a bit of a spoiler for this side-story but, if the manga follows the light novel, the main events should be:

Titans invading inside the Walls for the first time
The discovery of Titan weakness
The invention of 3DMG

Also, since Ymir says she could have wandered for about 60 years, and judging by her look (she looks 20,) she could be anywhere from the age of 5 to 15 during the event of the side-story. If that's the case, we could be expecting a cameo from her! (I don't think she appears in the actual light novel though.)

Ymir probably were not where this spin off is set. I imagined her into the wilderness moving like a mindless creature alone or in a titan pack.

And dun dun dun! My guess is right. It seems like the manga is going to skip the first light novel in favor of the second and third one.
But I just realized that the time discrepancy between first and the second+third volumes are just approximately 15-16 years. Kyukuro's parents(?Still don't know how to spell his name) are named Elena and Heath. Both were mentioned during the prologue chapter of the first volume.
