The Cute Candies
1. Blood Candy - This Candy increases your chance of survival (50%) for tonight but role actions will be stunned the next phase
2. Gummy candy - This candy makes you sick so you cannot vote the next day. Your name will be added to the sticky post as someone who cannot vote.
3. Spicy candy - A permanent secondary role has been added to you - Healthy Townie. You are now immune to candies with illnesses, stuns, and poisons.
——-so would be only Gummy, Blood, and Big Juicy for candy based
4. Peppermint Bark Candy - You now have a temporary special ability to block someone instead of your normal role. You may choose between the two roles but you cannot use both. The block is also First Priority.
5. Bittersweet Candy - For roles with sanity (Detective, Doctor, Apprentice, Spy, etc...) if you eat this candy after Night 3 then you get your sanity confirmed while mafia can become a Substitute and learn a skill from one of their comrades
—- does nothing to third party
6. SweetTea Candy - You may target a player, if they use an action there is a 50% chance of redirecting that action to yourself. This redirected action is Second Priority
7. Ghost Candy - If you die during the current phase, your death will be hidden like a janitor kill. (No color codes, real janitor ???)
8. Jolly Rancher Candy - This Candy helps increase priority level by 1 level
9. Roll-up Candy - Protection from Secondary actions but not Tertiary ones
10. Enchantress Candy - This candy is a bland candy cannot be ingested by a poor Halloween spirit like you.
—-Anyone can eat it but the candy is a troll and has no effects.
11. Big Juicy Candy - Players who eat this candy only be able to post 3 times during the day phase. You will be informed of this at the beginning of the Day Phase it takes effect in. The limit is only for that day phase in the normal thread.. You will still be able to use Day Pads. Your lynch post counts as one of the three. You will return to normal the following day. This is considered as a posting stunning action.
12. Birthday Candy - if a kill action is used against you, it will be frozen and dethaw durng the day before killing you the following night (means it will be frozen and act on you the next night)
13. Chocolate Candy - Your role permanently changes to a randomized role according to your alliance. It is randomize from pre-selected lists. (The lists are not shown to player; only hosts know and will reveal at Endgame) o


  • ( For Town: Vengeful Townie, Sleeper, Mortician, Spirit Medium, Sane Doctor, Paranoid Spy, Vanilla Townie, investigator for janitor candy and janitor upgrade)

  • (Mafia: Mafia Doctor, Mafia Bomb, Detective, Janitor, Vanilla mafia)


  • For Third party:
1. Mentor/Recruited Sub Mentor - Lone janitor
- kills sub without mentee
2. Mentee - Serial Killer
- helps to protect mentee from dying if Mentor dies
3. Lone Serial Killer - Shapeshifter
-helps Lone Serial Killer (but also potentially helps upgrades mentee)

it was agreed with mentor group that with upgrades, they should be treated like a mafia group with 1 kill per night quota. Also if mentor eats candy then kills mentee since no Recruiter unless Sub teacher takes mentees place; Originally there was no rule for additional recruit due to the nature of the mechanic as the mentor recruiting would eventually change and be phased out due to being replaced with other third party roles, the decision was made however to give the additional recruit on the night of the chocolate being taken by the mentee

Besides the candies that temporarily changed like prostitute and the ones that permanently changed role changed you like chocolate, if you didn’t like your role, you could use the gambling system to get rid of it. Also there would have been a burden in the game had Lich played. o/

Despite saying Mafia was too weak. Town had a Freeman and a naive traitor also their upgrades candy wasn’t as good as what mafia and third party could have gotten. They also never had a prostitute, having to rely on the candies and Farfalla’s BK only for blocking. And they only had a sane Doc + BG for protection, otherwise had to rely on candies in a game filled with killers. Also the Noble + detectives + doctors were all good candidates for mentoring. Mafia doctor and sleeper were things offered as potential upgrade that could help. And DD had an assassin upgrade. Town had a lot of passive roles to weaken them but also could help them try candies. Why people with important roles immediately wanted to try candies is beyond me since there were bad ones mixed in, even if most were good.

If we have a mafia doctor in the team, you guys would have said we gave unfair advantage to the mafia with the assassin upgrade! :sexyarf And any more mafia would have also been dangerous to the third party. Especially adding a mafia detective from the beginning. Van already got me for town being too weak because Mentor is arguably strongest TP role and also that assassin. Then Lambu in here with mafia being too weak. Make up your mind people!

Between your role claim of bomb and both bombs in the game dying and your role claim of freeman and then today’s lynch happening. Maybe it’s best not to role claim. Although I think a lot of that came from Lambu.

Lambu was so amusing to watch on the pad.

I think the win deprived me of things I wanted to see going forward in the game. Jammin vs Juviii with who is the real Freeman; Mortician Erinyes causing that role to shine; Lambu dying as Serial Killer and that shock value. And what actions and role changes everyone would have gotten with the new Candies from today.

I’m interested in seeing what my cohosts says because I’m generally a chaotic spirit who thrives in random atmospheric conditions.
I asked for a Lambu-style role claim and he gave it to me. I have no regrets. :lambirb

... except maybe that I never got the chance to claim doctor. I do so love to do that. And if I had done it in three straight games I feel like I would have deserved some kind of award.

My actual plan was to pull a Gry and grocery it up but I could see that Hardy had set the pins up on Juvii and needed somebody to come in and knock them down. Feel like somehow I ended up being the best person for the job. To Lambu's credit it ended up that way because of playing Freeman like he suggested.

@Juviii perhaps I could've sensed your frustration was geniune, but we were too far gone by then. I know the feeling. Don't take it personally, it happens.

@Crescent Jinx @Asako @Lady pompom I definitely didn't like the 4 TP team at the end. It was really OP, but I did enjoy the game and I like the candy concept when we got into it. Don't feel too bad about criticism. We're triggered, it happens. Just learn from it and move on. It was cool.

@Hardy you did quite good. We really didn't see you coming. At one point I considered checking you but really it would have been to negate all doubts not out of suspicion.

Everyone else, it was fun. @SonOfDaws you were really annoying. @Jammin you too. Especially because I have a grudge against you already. But fair play, congrats on winning.

@GrySun @Demonspeed shame you guys couldn't play now. Naturally you'd be back soon so it's fine.

@Farfalla you were a nice calm or beacon within this shit storm per usual. The loss isn't on you. The other townies also believed Juvii was TP and the better kill

I was so trigged at first I thought "will Lambu really become my rival?" :lmao
I managed to calm down and understand that nothing is personal here, so all good, hope we play together again next time :hug (:blush:handgun).
Same, I was feeling bad about assaulting you around Night 3 or so, even told Cres "I have to apoligize to revo after this" I was being so mean :XD but as you said its all part of the game and the required roleplay, after you died I focused my made up "frustration" on @Erinyes and after her it would have been Juvii or Farf and so so on :evil

In my defense... I was truly shocked to see Van flip as Bomb, I fell on his baiting trap like an amateur :lmao but Marm flipping M.Bomb when she claimed active-useful was what made me go full pigeon before my screen.
Then when Night 3 happened Jammin wanted to kill Daws cause he thought he was scheming something by gathering all candies, but there was also Holt that claimed active and "not expecting much of my role" stuff, he also let me be for a long time since Day 1... So I knew either Daws or Holt were the ST, but the other one would have to be dealt with because it reeked of Spy... and so it was.

In the end the second recruitment just made the game roll easily by following Seraph's lynch. I did want the second kill or the recruitment after eating the chocolate (cause if not I wouldn't have really changed my role in any way) but I didn't know it would devolve into that op Frankenmafia. :faint

Btw Cres, I felt really bad for the Mafias this game, just 4 members in a rather big game like this with 2 killing TPs around was too much for them. Sure they were unlucky by suffering Zasz's Wrathful Strike and bombing themselves but their numbers were too little to "bet" improvements on the candy RNG game, I think shinobi should have been with them as a Mafia Doc or something, it was a good oportunity to test it again.

The kill on DD day 1 was also random. :lambirb

Makes it hard balancing a situation with so many variables.

But this comes from people who think Bk is best role \o/

For townie players I would like to mentions @Juviii even though the end might have been frustrating, a freeman that survived so long in such a big game is no joke! There were many killing parties but you remained alive until the end.:biblethump

I think Holt also did a good job, but then Hardy convinced everyone he was townie:XD

well, hope you guys enjoyed the game despite the troubles we had, I think it was very fun and hope to do better next.

About that, gave a sleeper option so they could have gotten an other member, and there actually a sleeper in game, N3 mafia team could have continued if seraph used the kill on farfalla and she could have continued as the last mafia member and at the same time causing erin death but alas mafia wasn't as lucky as you guys...You really had lady luck with your team plus the fact we allowed that other recruition...

There were 20 players, having 4 mafias vs 16 wasn't fair for them even with a starting Sleeper among them. Indeed Lady Luck was with us Mentor group, but that luck was also product of Mafia's bad luck if you know what I mean, and their luck could have been even worse if SK or us targetted their members.
I understand the "controlled chaos" you three wanted to do, but having the very balance of the game set on the hands of luck wasn't a good idea in my opinion.

I already voiced why I think SK needs some adaptations and then being in a game with another TP party that is basically yours +2 more members made it clear for me how big the struggle of a lone wolf is (even if the Chocolate could likely turn her into another Mentor... if that would happen it would also be a bigger GG to town).

Yea that was a dilemma when deciding the lone wolf, since lone assassin already was used on Fumetsu.

Lone janitor with a traitor, was also considered. Then we wondered about 3 op scum kill parties. Especially with the janitor candy. Plus last game was based around janitor kills. And we didn’t want to mimic it too much with adding investigators and spirit mediums.

And Shino would have became SS, which would have been an awesome upgrade but bad for town.

Pom was a fan of the original 20 4 mafia + real traitor with only mentor in the game. Asako and I felt there should be another killing party, or we find ways to essentially nerf town more.

We didn’t want a full mafia team because of assassin upgrade since most people put burdens or lovers in mafia teams with assassins. We added bomb and BG and prosecutors for the Op killers, which would essentially probably hurt the lone wolf more then the teams unless mentor targeted bomb right of the bat with no sub teacher.. xD..... And it kill all 4 players. Which almost happened this game.

If we added a member to the team it would have been burden which would have hurt all scum in the game or pirate since it’s a weaker role. But like freeman, burden and pirate could have had option of losing their roles or upgrading.

Also considered the game starting out with the SS, instead of having it as an upgrade. People losing roles and stuff as the game progressed, they might contribute it to the candy. It would be awesome. But felt that madness would be a little too much for players.

Same reason why we didn’t want Santa because presents + candies would be too much chaos. And lack of prostituite. Since the roles and the candies were made together, I decided for weaker that could upgrade as the game progressed. So at that point it was either 2 mentors with 1 sub teacher or 2 mentors with 2 sub teachers with a potential of one mentor getting both and at that point we would need to put a mafia doctor in plus a full mafia team or serial killer. Serial killer worked out best with the candies.

But I don’t even understand the SK role. If you wanted to make mafia lone, you can do that anyway. And also give them a traitor. Don’t even know what the point of a serial killer is when could make a lone vanilla orange mafia member would work the same way. And then you could provide sleepers and traitors.

Plus better to make lone assassins and janitors which have better chance of winning on their own.

A few post game thoughts of someone with mostly secondhand knowledge (given my hosting history, take with a grain of salt);

I don't agree with 'chaos' of any sort being a suitable guiding philosophy in designing a game. 'Chaos' (now defined) as 'confusion' I've found through personal experience both hosting and playing does not contribute but subtracts from the player experience. 'Chaos' should be an emergent gamestate (players should make the chaos) rather than the default gamestate being chaotic. I.e. game designs whereby the player has to 1. learn a bunch of new things and 2. doesn't understand that information to the full extent (in this game, 1. 13 candies and 2. not easily going to know what candy does what) probably won't play out well.

A very important thing I feel I should add here is that this applies to players playing this mechanic for the first time. I.e., if the playerbase were to play this (simplified) mechanic 5 more times, and everyone would have a feel for the candies and bartering, it would probably be a much more enjoyable experience. So, the above text is something to consider when designing a mechanic that's going to be used for the first time. Back in the day we had team fight mechanics, for instance. Sure, those were easy to grasp, but they were still a new feature the playerbase got used to playing and balancing around.

A second point, and this is more personal, has to do with random role upgrades. So tying into the previous point of information, a somewhat important consideration in balancing is trying to get a feel for what information the players will uncover and how they will respond to that. A somewhat conventional framing scheme is a thematic; in case of good balance, the role change is controlled, limited and usually follows a thematic (is better than the base role, the opposite, etc. and usually this rule is also explained ahead of time). Now, the real problem arises when player upgrades cause faction changes, especially within the blue party. Blue party roles are TP rather than mafia because they each have their own win condition. If SK can suddenly start recruiting, the paradigm of the game changes (because players were not signalled that exotic combinations could and would mutate the game). This too wouldn't necessarily be a problem, if there weren't 12 other candies around.

A third point has to do with daypads. I think daypads are bad. The day phase thread exists so that all information is recorded in one place. If someone made a slip up in a daypad, they could correct it before anyone notices, if anyone does, and not make that mistake again on the thread. In other words, if you think your design requires a daypad, it should probably be redsigned. In this case I think it could have been left out, but that's speaking from my limited pov.

A fourth point has to do with faction momentum. This is something I still experiment with and fail at, but generally you need to have a scope of what the conditions of every faction can be. Now, it's easy to be wrong about this stuff and generally since your game will be played just once, all sorts of weird things could happen (insert example of any TP in panda.game), but generally you want to avoid one party growinf overpowered. If one party is painfully underpowered, that sucks, but if one party suddenly grows overpowered, you have to deal with a situation the majority of the playerbase would consider 'unfair, even with this knowledge'. So, while all sorts of things can happen, a degree of power creep is avoidable, such as limiting the variety in blue roles, being careful with experimenting with new roles and ahead of time consider if your mechanic makes life harder or easier for non-town.

A fifth point, and the final one concering balance; if you introduce a mechanic, the roles should be balanced around that. In plain games, the game is balanced around roles. As soon as night-phase mutations are introduced, it becomes an important balance consideration. 13 candies with unknown power was just too much.

Finally, I liked this idea. I liked the effort. Hosting ain't easy and personally I know all too well how satisfying it is to conjure a wall to rebut an argumentative player, but ultimately, if players complain about balance or the mechanic, they probably have a point :catshrug I hope you improve at hosting as to keep hosting spicier games in the future, and if nothing else, learn that 'chaos' is the worst gamestate after 'complete clarity'.
