I don't think yaoi or yuri necessarily equate to being a sin to read, it is far too generalized. What matters in a context is the depiction or portrayal and even then this varies significantly because you have to understand we're not all following one religion -- and each one clearly has its own rules and norms. I think the question is too generalized.
But as a practicing roman catholic (there are other denominations) and with some knowledge on basic theology (I took Theology 101-103) again I would just emphasize its a matter of portrayal, since not all depictions or portrayal immediately equate to being offensive or a sinful. If its tastefully done and with dignity there isn't any problem really.
However, I am certain there are draconian and puritanical views out there, just look at Apple, but clearly not everybody subscribes to such views or denominations. So simply put if you want a catch all answer... Provided you don't subscribe to the more intolerant sects or denominations there is no rule of thumb answer, you're better off just following the ratings guide if you want to play it safe.
