Hey Guys !

I was just listening to this great song AoT OST Counter Attack on Mankind ( the beginning of the song actually ) and I thought this would be the greatest song to end AoT , I know its a bit soon but how would YOUR ending for AoT be?

I mean : Happy End - Armin , Eren , Mikasa alive traveling , exploring the world
Semi - Happy End - One of them dies/sacrifices himself for the others
[insert sarcasm here] Way too Happy End - Everyone of the main cast dies (yaay!) Leaving Mankind happy !

My "Happy End" would be Eren , Mikasa dying together. Armin getting really old telling his grandchildren the tale of him and his old friends defeating the Titans. ( a bit too happy xD)

Or something totally different ? Tell me your favorite ending for AoT !

Last page is Mikasa smiling while Eren is nestling in her warm and soft bussom.

Everything else is pretty much insignificant.

I can totally see Eren dying to save humanity. Jean dies to save Mikasa, and his last words are a confession. Erwin and Pixis die along with Eren. The warrior faction gets wiped out by an military operation led by Armin that involves all three branches. Someone from the Titan trio defects (Annie most likely) and helps humanity. Levi kills the Ape titan. Reiner and Bertl get killed by Eren. Sasha and Connie get married. Ymir dies to save Historia.

Isn't that a little bit too much dying though? I mean I get that SnK is a manga where some imporntant characters die. When I was introduced to it by someone I was told that "You shouldn't really get attached to characters so much, chances are they'll die in 5 chapters or so". But it's not really as bad as I would've imagined it.

The way I see it the ending could go two ways. One is more of a shounen way and the other is just mayhem.

Eren and friends find the source of the Titans and win in the end. Pixis will probably die to fulfill the old-man-dying-stereotype of shounen and make way for Armin or Jean as head of the army. Levi might die, considering the fact that his role to the plot is more in the lines of making way through rows of opponents. Once there are no opponents to get rid of, he is pretty much unemployed. So a death during the epic final battle where he clears the path for Eren with his last breath would be fitting.
Some of the rookies could die too, but I'm not too sure about that.
But with an end like that I'd expect Eren and Mikasa to survive and see the outside world together.

The other ending would be pretty dramatic and tragic, with most of the main cast dying on the way to the answer to win the war. Eren would then face more times of depression and despair, feeding his hatred against the titans. Mikasa would probably give her life for him (making way for a potential romantic moment before her death). And I would expect Armin to be one of the few who survive, even though there would be a moment where he'd want to sacrifice himself, Eren would give him some last words and send him away. Armin would then live both of their dreams when he finally get's to see what a peaceful life in the outside world is.
This ending has a similiar tone as what you prupose, but I doubt that it will be this horrible.

Maybe it's because people expect this manga to continue having horrific death scenes and tragic plot development, and maybe it's just wishful thinking on my part, but I'd rather have a happy ending in Shingeki no Kyojin. With all the characters have been through already they kind of deserve it.

So far most of the deaths are of "story arc characters" -
104th graduates (in Trost), former Levi's squad (in FT), SL's officers (in Utgard). Hannes is the only "original" cast to have died so far.
Of the remaining 104th-10+2, maybe one (or two) more will leave the line up, and I wish that's all there to it. Having only the main trio or part of the trio to survive til the end is just way too cliche.

Yeah, my ending was tragic, I know. It's probably because I have read certain books where anyone, even... no especially the main characters can die. So I wouldn't be surprised if there was a lot more death to come. But a happy ending is something that I don't expect and I don't like. The ending will be either semi-happy (as the OP put it) or neutral, where (in my opinion) humanity wins but a good chunk of the main cast dies.

I didn't mean to critizise your scenario in any way, at least I hope I didn't come off like that. I just think it's unlikely that it's going to be as tragic as you described it. I myself prefer stories where the main cast doesn't have a plot shield aswell and would take such a story over a cheesy happy ending 9 out of 10 times.
For some reason though I'd like to see something a little bit more postitive with this manga, can't explain why exactly though.

It's okay, I actually expected such a reaction, and I was kind of looking forward to one. I exaggerated though, forgetting that this is a Shonen manga, not a Seinen.

Number of named characters in the manga+anime : 62
Number of dead characters in this previous number : 27
Unkown status : 5 (Dazz, Samuel, Hannah, Annie, Grisha)
Monkey Trouble : 1

More than half the named cast is dead if you consider the missing characters dead or not really alive anymore...

And I have a few possible endings in my head, now, let's go for a loooooongpost :

the super hyper good ending : most of the main cast survives, Armin can explore and create maps of the world while having a lot of cute little blonde tacticians (Armin will not die, 100% sure, if he dies, I quit !), Eren finds the biggest stock of chill pills in the world gets outside the walls with Armin, Mikasa gets to finally live by Eren side (not maybe marrying him, but living with him in a more peaceful world, as a sibling), Jean will finally have a meaningfull/peacefull life (becomes an officer leading reconstruction and exploration with the others) AND a girlfriend/wife (Mikasa, Sasha, Hitch or Armin, your call...), Sasha discovers a place for a clan and recreate it with all it's folklore somewhere, Connie is able to get a new family and a new town/village to live with someone (Sasha may have created one, jackpot ?). Hanji continues to discover the mysteries of the world and explain them with here super assistant Moblit (Know your feels bro' !), Rivaille dies or Petra revive out of nowhere (I don't see what he can do, he is just a thug or a soldier, could he live a "normal" life). Annie reunite with her father one day, and can marry Bertl AND Reiner, threesome yay ! :3c Ymir and Historia marry each other...

Okay... THIS ^ (yeah this paragraph) IS STUPID !

I'll rather do this by character... Bold = Most likely in my opinion, underligned = what I want, italic = would be interesting, and I'll order it by importance and screen/panel time while saying the chances they die before the last panel/frame closing the manga/anime (IMO) :

Eren : Kill all the Titans, kill the persons responsibles for this, kill, kill, kill... Everything is dead ? EXPLORATION TIME ! , get to know why there are titans and can solve the problem without killing everything in his path, gets to explore the outside world without always saying "TITANS" and gets with Annie, DIES or finally calm down and understand Mikasa's feelings, explores the world with her and Armin. Chances of Death : 40%

Mikasa : Lives with Eren (Eren becomes her wife, yup, HER wife), and see that the world is not so cruel but sill beautiful, buys a heart and goes with Jean while still keeping a "normal" sibling relationship with Eren (she gets a crazy family this way), becomes able to have feelings for other people like a normal person, but still lives with Eren, understand Jean's feelings and is grateful to people other than the Trio and Rivaille. Chances of Death : 10%

Armin : Explores the outside world and gets to tell the tales of their life to the next generation and how they solved the titan crisis, has a lot of kids... dirty Armin... :cheez Chances of Death : 0.1%

Jean : Dies knowing why Marco died and be one of the most missed guys by the others because of his sacrifice allowing the team to win once and for all, also confess to Mikasa with his final words(I don't like this one but since the beginning, Jean lives with a deathflag : he is my favorite character, and all of my favorite characters dies :-_- , plus he is voiced by Kittan and looks like Kittan from tengen toppa gurren lagann, make the connection and say farewell to the poor guy...), becomes one of the leaders of the recon corps and going outside the wall BUT getting to live an interesting life and finally getting to be with his only love : Hitch !, confess to Mikasa, is turned down, finds someone else (HITCH, Sasha ?, Historia ? Highly unlikely) and thanks to all he has done, is finally able to live a nice life but still exciting (sight-seeing around the world with Armin), or a Roy Mustangish end (still having something to accomplish but having done most of the job and knowing why is best friend died). Chances of Death : 80%

Levi/Rivaille : Dies while allowing the others to survive and finish the job, is betrayed by his soldiers (ends up with a wound in the back by a certain person ?) when he tries to drive Eren into despair (sacrificing his new squad mates to boost Eren), continues his path as a loner in a world where his fighting skills are now useless, or becomes the fastest pizza deliverer in the world ! C.o.Death : 50%

Historia : I don't have a single idea since chapter 51, maybe becomes the queen of humanity ? No seriously I don't know, live her life for Ymir and her only ?, becomes one of the most important figures of humanity, goes with Armin to have the cutest blonde midgets in the whole world (Yup, my favorite pair is Ymir/Historia, but I wouldn't complain about this, remember what I said ? Armin has access to the Shingeki Haremin) C.o.Death : 5%

Reiner : Gets redemption trough his death after helping to defeat the big boss (Monkey trouble ?) And becomes a legend for humanity, having helped her to break her shackles, gets redemption and able to become an asset for the soldiers while one of his friend (I'm not targeting any 60meter high person) stays true to his mission and has to be fought once their main mission is done (this supposes that the warriors are not opposed to humanity but didn't had any better choice than to kill them to avoid a problem for them) C.o.Death : 65%

And I'll finish this post later, therefore : Posted, and will be edited later to add the other important characters !

I want an ending where Eren dies. Dying to save humanity would be really cool. Aside from just characters dying like Irwin, Levi, etc. and the destroying the titans there are some thing I want to see as the series ends.

1. Titans in the wall waking up. Imagine Erin using his new found power to control the titans in the walls but somehow have to sacrifice his life through it. That would be pretty sweet.

2. Having the established government over the people in the walls be overthrown.

3. Having chapters exploring the world, not just end it with the characters about the explore. I do not want some scene of Armin staring out into the sunset and be like "let's go exploring" and then having it end.

What I really want is an ending that continues to have the theme of "sorrow, loss, suffering". I don't think a happy ending would be the best, but like a bitter-sweet ending with the deaths of many we've come to know and love.

Everyone dies. Titans and humans. The only living things left on the planet are animals and plants.

What if, after they beat the titans and warriors after an epic battle with many losses they venture further and reach a fourth wall, there they realise that they are not what is left of mankind, but a titanshifter "factory". Those titanshifters are then used in wars against other countries and so on...

if it does end in ~20 volumes, then it is hardly more than 40 chapters to go. Well, a lot has yet to be explained,
Isayama may explain the origin of most things, the titans, titan shifters, walls such-and-such, but the story will stay on the ground and Eren will be dealing with the situation progressively.

So, I doubt the story will proceed too far off from what we have seen now, the story probably ends with Eren defending and conquering walls(I guess there will gonna be many), save humanity and such.

To be honest I don't have a notion of how the manga should end because I have no idea of what each side is actually fighting for. We don't even know who is in whose side. So far we have the following things in play:

Eren as the coordinate and the scouting legion
The government, the wall cult
The warriors beyond the walls
And we have no idea of who the ape titan is siding with. Presumably with the warriors though. Although he could potentially be everyone's enemy.

Among them the only ones whose objectives we know are those of eren and the scouting legion. So without knowing what in the hell the other parties and potential parties are going after how could we predict how the manga ends? A big part of the manga has actually been finding out who the enemy is, their objectives and motives and how to beat them and save humanity. Still, even now we only have some vague notion of who they are and their motives.

The first guess would be it all ends with eren sending an army of titans against the ape titan and the warriors and then he systematically kills the titans within and outside the walls using his coordinate. Maybe he could create yet another wall by gathering normal titans and forcing them to turn into a new wall thus expanding humanity's territory.

Alternatively he actually sees what the warriors are fighting for and comes to an understanding with them once he sees they are just people also striving for survival.

Or Eren anger can take over him and he becomes the real enemy...I was really interested on what Reiner said, about him having this power was a problem...though I don't think this is going to happen...at best he will overcome his rage at the end, but who knows

The ending – you’ve said publicly that you had a specific ending for Shingeki envisioned from the start. You’re wavering with regard to that?

The plot is pretty loose, there have been new elements added, and some characters have come to life in a really unexpected way.

So the story came to life on its own, and may now get a different ending to the one you had planned from the start?

Right.

That’s a huge change. I read all your interviews to date and I came to think you had some unbelievably traumatic mega-ending all planned >out.

I’m at a loss with respect to that. At first it was going to be a traumatic ending. Like in the movie ‘Mist’ where everyone dies, I wanted to >do something like that.

Looking at all the fans who have come to support Shingeki by way of the anime, doing a criminal thing like that to them is just not >something I can do, so I can’t really think that was what I really wanted in the first place.

Ohhhh…

I’m really lost, aren’t I?
So he pussied out of an awesome ending he had envisioned from the start? Damn..

I've never gotten the impression that the plot in the story is actually loose. Its a bit slow lately but it does seem to have a specific direction. I would think the interview is fake.

Not quite yet. He could write something for the anime team and the anime could have a happy ending while the manga could end bleakly. At least I hope something like that happens. I kinda want and expect the ending of this series to be as depressing and shocking as "The Mist". Now it's possible that we might get something like Gantz's "happy" ending, though with a high chance it actually being good.

Apparently so. It's a real shame because an ending where everyone dies sounds like it could be amazing. I hope he's either just toying with us (unlikely because he's always too honest when discussing the future of the series) or he goes back to his original idea. I really don't want SnK to have a generic Shounen ending. That interview gives me some hope because it shows that he knows what the series is gonna do until the end(and he's got years to figure that out).
