To be honest, I thought it would be much worse. But it turned out pretty well.
If you paid attention to production details you could tell that being better than what GoT turned into would be a pretty automatically easy accomplishment. But yeah, thankfully HBO didn't have anyone there to fuck up Condal and GRRM's vision for the series. This show had absolutely zero business being as good as it was. I was surprised that I didn't even need to handicap it with the low expectations I had, it was just somehow legit pretty alright.
HotD was better than the whole back half of GoT.IMO House of Dragon was better then Game of Thrones last season!
Sure there were some scenes where I face palmed, and asked myself "why she didn't kill the queen and her children, when she was there with her DRAGON?"

xi0 that's certainly a choice to have for an opening reply to me of all people here xD <-- this is a bitIf you paid attention to production details
lmao... well I realize now it comes off a certain way but I mainly meant that there was no Weiss or Benioff.xi0 that's certainly a choice to have for an opening reply to me of all people here xD <-- this is a bit
I think the only things that really annoyed me about HotD was narrative contrivance. So much of the central conflict had to rely on the flimsiest of pretenses. But even with that out of the way, I can't believe I'm actually looking forward to more of that show... considering what hot garbage we were left with after GoT.
Larys: "Hold my wine, I have royal feet to jerk off to"Overall, I feel House of the Dragon has been better than at least 80% of GoT, but the main reason is because HotD doesn't seem to go for shock the way GoT did.
That is such an iconic scene, but that still pales in comparison to most things in GoT. I mean, foot fetish is common, but burning your kid as a sacrifice to become king is on another levelLarys: "Hold my wine, I have royal feet to jerk off to"

80% is too high... if you're a book reader and insistent on being as critical as possible GoT is great to solid through the first 4 seasons. Some decisions made were mistakes IMO but given the showrunners had no interest in adapting much of anything faithfully after the first 3 books in the series (despite some people blaming GRRM for not finishing the series quickly enough) the changes do make more sense.Overall, I feel House of the Dragon has been better than at least 80% of GoT, but the main reason is because HotD doesn't seem to go for shock the way GoT did.
The source material is very obviously anti-Black faction, so I'm curious how Ryan Condell will adapt that. Giving Alicent the material he already has proves that he has to go out of his way to make them easier to sympathize with, I expect more with Helaena too. While I'm team Black like most of the people I know, I believe I'm the only one who knows how things go down and the story ends... So I'm really curious if there will be a shift in sides when Rhaenyra starts making some questionable decisions.
Why do you think it won't be part of this season? Makes prefect sense the season will end on that, considering the things we saw in the trailer like Criston being the hand.A certain battle where someone dies will not be part of Season 2. It is very cineastic and a natural season finale on paper. So what else will be the Season finale?
I don't see why you would believe a random rumor, especially one that doesn't even make sense logically... Multiple characters, including Rhaenyra and Alicent were given far more to do then they did in the books without the need to eliminate other characters. There's no reason they would do that now, especially since Martin is directly involved in HotD, and said character is one he has said he wanted to explore more of.Apparently they condensed the character of Nettles with one of Damon's daughters and honestly that sucks ass. It just seems so wrong and out of place for various reasons. And honestly my biggest complain is that this merger sounds like legit stuff out of Winx Club. The storyline that comes out of it and the character development that comes out of it is just ass.
It's not just Nettles that got annihilated from plot, Damon's daughter did, too.
And yes she doesn't have much. But she would have had a Dragon welpling hatching (now also cut)...It shows an utmost lack of creative spirit to not come up with some good original plot for her.
Everyone a dragon rider and from zero to hero so many times is so played through already throughout the first season.
Cutting Nettles will imply major changes in character development regarding Daemon. It also makes the already pathetic melodram death scene of Laena Velaryon even more pathetic, if Daemon never gets another black girl.
What the first season implied is that Daemon is torn between a Fire&Blood fascist side that is pretty bad and a lifestyle experimentalist side that is actually quite chill and that was mostly shown in Laena times and considering how his story ends...
Or will they make him make love with his daughter?
Lastly, such changes are a pretty nasty prospect for creative people in general. Like even if your books get world famous success, if you want it on screen you'll have to accept it being torn apart by other people.
Because this is definitely not a necessary cut. The Dance of the Dragons plotline doesn't even have that many core characters to begin with. Natural rules of production wants you to introduce new major characters through the earlier seasons, and still noteworthy ones in later. This cut is a creative choice. It is out of dislike of the source material.
Idk what the fuck you mean by that comment about Laena's death being pathetic if Daemon never gets another black girl (seriously wtf is that supposed to mean). But damn I am straight up a pillar of salt about Nettles seemingly being cut.Cutting Nettles will imply major changes in character development regarding Daemon. It also makes the already pathetic melodram death scene of Laena Velaryon even more pathetic, if Daemon never gets another black girl.
