I have to wonder though, what nickname would Mifune give to Irie.
At first I considered if the other oni might be referring to Irie, but I think Mifune would call him clown or something like that. Unless we've been fooled and Irie is in fact Swindler, doubt it though.

Not sure about Akutsu/Niou pair.
If I were to look just for patterns and such, I'd say Akutsu/Kite and Niou/Ishida, but I have no idea who Niou could illusion in that pair. If he didn't illusion anyone and just used some other form of trick play I'd be cool with that though.

@Kaoz so you give up your 50 theory or you are still working on it? I am still struggling with my lineup and will try figure it out asap.

Had to give up on it for now, unfortunately. With the set of characters I'm working with now there are not enough points on the board to make two more 50 point line-ups.

I think it might still be viable if the dice are interpreted differently though.

Kaoz: I think Niou would work best with any doubles specialist. Unfortunately, Gin doesn't fit that bill. I doubt that one would work too. Niou could actually work with Marui (for best MSer combo), Fuji (and become Tezuka), and Mouri (learn more from his former schoolmate and because Mouri is another doubles specialist). I don't see him paired with anyone else to be honest. Of course he could always play singles but I don't think he has a high chance of winning.

Well, while I'd like to see some regular trick play, Niou's main purpose is to turn into a character who would be interesting to see in that situation but can't be there in person for whatever reason. So in my mind it's less about whether his partner is good at doubles or not, but rather about some combination of interactions and fanservice.

He turned into Tezuka and Shiraishi in the nationals finals, so that 1) Seigaku would have to overcome the three strongest in the singles matches and 2) Fuji could face off against his nemesis. Then in the revolution matches it was probably mostly to give the Golden Pair a final bit of screentime similar to how we got a few panels each of Inui/Yanagi and Tachibana/Chitose. And finally in the G10 challenge having Atobe/Tezuka was supposed to be a bit of a dream doubles I imagine, and of course it was interesting to see Tezuka's techniques against opponents that strong.

In the same vein I think an Akutsu/Niou pair would be interesting because Akutsu is still obsessed with Ryoma as we've seen both in his flashback and prior to the 2/6 match. Not only would the interactions between the two probably be pretty funny, but it would likely also give Akutsu's character a chance to further develop.

In that sense, it would be interesting to see a NiouTezuka/Fuji pair.

I guess Konomi would give us a lot of surprising double pairs with two players that have no relations at all just like Oishi/ Ochi and Fuji/Duke. Mostly likely we will see more pairs between HSers and MSers.

Speaking of Niou, I agree that he would be a great asset in doubles. I think Kaoz has suggested Niou to disguise Kimijima and negotiate with other players which would be interesting and corresponds with his nickname "swindler". Niou can disguise Tezuka and pair with Fuji/Oishi/Sanada although I would prefer seeing him to disguise someone else. He can also disguise Ryoma and play double with Kintarou.

Just curious, when Niou disguise a right-handed player like Kikumaru, does he play with his left hand or right hand? I guess he would perform better when he disguise a left-handed player.

Not quite. My idea was to have Kimijima do all the negotiating still, but have it be something super weird that goes on for two matches. So he'd sacrifice the first match to get a free win afterwards for instance which would be beneficial against a powerhouse like Switzerland.

He plays with his right hand then from what it looks like. Chances are his lefty Illusions are a bit better, but I don't think the difference is that big. Even in his very first match he pretended to be Yagyuu for a while after all and Inui didn't notice the difference until they revealed the trick.
